on one more milestone

I never learned to count my blessings, I choose instead to dwell in my disasters.- Ray Lamontagne (Empty)

Names are called out in succession-

sometimes I listen, to see if it's someone I might know.

It strikes me how I've managed to go four years of college and hardly make any new friends at my own school. Graduation is exciting- but awfully lonely.

I stand up, trooping down the line, card in hand, name perfectly printed so the announcer can't pronounce names incorrectly.

Georgia State should take a cue- they had my brother write his name and "sean" was pronounced "sam".

I hear yells for people all around me- whistles and cat calls as names are called out. When it comes time for me,

I don't hear a thing. I don't hear my name, I don't hear the yells (if there were any) I only see the woman standing with an empty diploma holder, ready to smile and shake my hand.

I am so weary,

so tired-

so done with this place.

I force a smile, and walk back to my seat where I sit for another two hours bored out of my mind.

One degree down-

two more to go.

I know what you mean when you say this stuff -- it's almost pointless. I opted out of going to my first graduation just because I didn't feel like sitting around and seeing all the other people be loved... it does sound harsh, but it's like you say: there it is.

I raise a glass of chai to you, my dear.
